5 Best Ways to Improve Your Complexion
There are so many cosmetic treatments to choose from and we’re often asked which ones are the best. It is important to note that an initial skin analysis like VISIA is important to determine which therapy/therapies are best for you since many factors determine which will give the greatest results for your skin type, BUT generally speaking our top recommendations are:
#1 Microdermabrasion
This treatment works for ALL skin types and provides significant textural and color enhancements that are visible with the first treatment - and that’s what most people are looking for… Fast results!
Microdermabrasion gives skin a smooth, healthy glow; minimizes pores; reduces the appearance of fine wrinkles, brown spots and freckles caused by sun damage; improves acne prone skin and acne scars; removes blackheads and whiteheads; helps fight the signs of aging.
How it works - Beginning with a deep cleanse, extractions, and exfoliation using fine crystals and suction, new elastin and collagen is formed which allows younger, softer skin to move to the surface. Because it reaches the lower epidermal layers, it provides more predictable results than chemical peels. Microdermabrasion makes other skin and cosmetic treatments like VI Peels and Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) more effective.
#2 VI Peel
This process applies a chemical solution to the face, which causes peeling of the upper layer of skin, exposing regenerated skin. The benefits of VI Peels are noticeable changes, younger looking skin, improves the tone, texture, and clarity; reduces or eliminates age spots, freckles, and hyperpigmentation; reduces pore size; softens lines and wrinkles; stimulates the production of collagen and elastin for firmer skin; improves acne skin conditions. Sunscreen should be used following a chemical peel since skin will be more sensitive to the sun.
Because skin will peel, this therapy is considered to be more involved - not something you would want to do just days before a big event!

#3 Photorejuvenation (IPL)
Photorejuvenation is a series of treatments using a non-abrasive technique to treat fine lines, wrinkles, persistent red complexion, the symptoms of rosacea, sun spots, age spots, skin discoloration, freckles, mottled pigmentation, acne scars, blemishes, post-pregnancy masks and broken capillaries. It stimulates collagen which reduces wrinkles and improves skin texture.
Specialized lasers and Intense Pulse Light (IPL) devices are used to remove hyper pigmentation and vascularity that has resulted from sun damage and other factors, especially on the face, neck and chest. The procedure creates a gentle warming of the skin. A wide range of facial concerns can be treated simultaneously, safely and effectively. You would not want to do this prior to a big event of family photos!!

#4 Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
Photodynamic Therapy is the newest therapy for advanced skin rejuvenation and moderate to severe acne. Utilizing Levulan, a photosensitizing agent, activated by a special wavelength BlueLight (Blu-U), we can more effectively treat photodamage (sun damage), acne, rosacea, enlarged oil glands, and brown spots. Levulan is a nontoxic, naturally occurring substance that shrinks sebaceous glands and targets precancerous and certain types of cancer cells. Abnormal skin cells are targeted and destroyed, revealing improved skin.
PDT is an ideal treatment for acne compared to Accutane, which has dangerous side effects.

#5 Smoothbeam Laser Therapies – Specifically For Acne
SmoothBeam uses a combination of laser light and cryogen spray cooling to shrink the sebaceous glands and destroy the bacteria – the root causes of acne lesions – without damaging your skin. Most acne treatments miss the target or have potential serious side effects. Antibiotics temporarily kill bacteria, but have no effect on the sebaceous glands and require months to years of treatment. SmoothBeam uses laser energy to penetrate deeper to the sebaceous gland for more effective, long-lasting clearance.
BONUS! Facial Treatments to Do at Home
Cleanse We can’t say it enough… Wash your face every morning and evening. It’s a simple step, but it has major effects on the look and health of your skin! Start with a secret ingredient - olive oil. Dip a cotton ball in a little olive oil and apply all over your face. Olive oil works great as a cleanser prior to using your own cleanser. It loosens blackheads and makes your cleanser work even better! Can be used on acne-prone skin.
Look for a cleanser that dissolves sebum oil - nothing alcohol or oil-based. We recommend SkinCeuticals, Phytomer, or Obaji
Use Caution with Scrubs & Brushes If you have sensitive or acne-prone skin, these can sometimes cause more harm than good. A skin analysis will help determine if scrubs or brushes would be a good home treatment for your skin type. A home-made scrub with sea salt, honey and oatmeal can be used with most skin types. Rotary brushes should not be used more than once a week and never use if you have acne-prone or sensitive skin.
Moisturize This is important but has to be right for your skin type - oily, dry, very dry, etc.
Use Sun Screen Extremely important! Sunscreen will reduce sun-damage to your skin, protect from skin cancer and stave off wrinkles!
Vitamin C Serum an antioxidant that can be used on all skin types. It targets sun damage, helps lighten brown spots when used with the proper sun block; brightens skin; creates a more even skin tone.
Healthy Diet and Water Avoid overindulging in sugary and dairy products. Detox twice per year. Drink water every day. (Note: the amount of recommended water consumption for your body depends on your activity level and body needs.)
