Photo Rejuvenation
Photo Rejuvenation
What is photo rejuvenation?
Using a specialized laser (KTP and Vbeam), photo rejuvenation is a process used to remove hyperpigmentation and vascularity, especially on the face, neck and chest that has resulted from skin damage and other factors.
How does the treatment work?
The laser light penetrates through the skin and is absorbed by the abnormal vessels and/or pigmentation. The heat created causes damage to the vessel or pigmentation, allowing the body to begin its natural healing process. The lesions will either flake off or be absorbed by the body.
What can I expect?
Results vary from patient to patient. At most, the sensation of a rubber band snapping on the area is experienced. Some areas are more sensitive than others, especially under the nose and eyes. There is usually no pain after the treatment. The treated area will be red or darkened and some swelling may be noted. This usually resolves within a few hours but may last longer. Improvement is progressive and may take up to six weeks.
Side effects:
Rarely, swelling and/or blistering can occur. Temporary lightening and redness may occur but is usually resolved within weeks to months. Limiting sun exposure for several weeks before and after treatment will greatly minimize complications.
Leg spider veins:
Laser is less effective and may make the problem worse. Unless the sources are treated, usually with sclerotherapy, the veins may return or worsen. Dr.Kass, our medical director, is a vein expert and will be happy to discuss this with you.
