Acne Laser Therapy

What is Acne and why is it so hard to treat?
Almost everyone is plagued by acne during some period of his or her life. Acne is a significant skin condition that can alter a person’s physical and psychological life, affecting self-image and confidence. There are many types of acne, but the most common is acne vulgaris. Acne begins under the surface of the skin where there are hundreds of tiny glands (called sebaceous glands) that collect and excrete an oily substance called sebum to keep the skin healthy. The pathway for the sebum to escape often becomes clogged. This where a bacterium called P. acnes grows and, in a short time, the area swells up and forms a pimple on the skin. If left untreated, acne can cause scar formation.

Where Do I Begin?
Unlike most dermatology practices, we have multiple non-invasive treatments that spare adults and children from the long term hazardous effects associated with Accutane and antibiotics. At Kass Clinics, the first step is skin evaluation using the VISIA® Complexion Analysis system. VISIA’s advanced technology provides meaningful skin evaluations and tracks treatment progress. VISIA generates quantitative values for skin features that until now could only be subjectively evaluated.

VISIA proprietary technology provides extraordinary new detection and analysis of subsurface vascular (red) and melanin (brown) conditions for more precise treatment planning. This particularly helpful in treating conditions such as rosacea, spider veins, melasma and acne. It also provides the most complete sun damage assessment and analysis, including UV fluorescence imaging to reveal porphyrins (P. acnes).

You may require one or more treatments in conjunction with a skin care regimen and quality skin care products to give you the best result.

Following are some of the treatments Kass Clinics currently offer:

SmoothBeam: Focuses on the root cause of acne.
Most acne treatments miss the target or have potential serious side effects. SmoothBeam uses a combination of laser light at 1450nm and cryogen spray cooling to shrink the sebaceous glands and destroy the bacteria – the root causes of acne lesions – without damaging the epidermis. Antibiotics temporarily kill bacteria, but have no effect on the sebaceous glands and require months to years of treatment. SmoothBeam uses laser energy to penetrate deeper to the sebaceous gland for more effective, long-lasting clearance.

SmoothBeam is also used to treat:

• Sebaceous Hyperplasia
• Skin rejuvenation
• Wrinkles around eyes and mouth

Photodynamic Therapy
Photodynamic Therapy (PDT) is the most recent therapy for advanced acne. Utilizing Levulan, a photosensitizing agent, activated by a special wavelength BlueLight (Blu-U), we can now more effectively treat moderate to severe cystic acne. Levulan is a nontoxic, naturally occurring substance that targets sebaceous glands and combined with Blu-U target the bacteria that cause acne.

Cutera VBeam for Acne Scars
Utilizing Vbeam laser technology we can also treat the red scars caused by acne, offering you the most superior treatment available today for acne.

Microdermabrasion
Using a fine mist of microscopic crystals, the outer layer of skin is gently exfoliated and removed by suction, encouraging the formation of new elastin and collagen. The younger, softer skin moves to the surface affecting significant textural and color changes. An immediate improvement in your skin will be noticeable with these effects increasing over the course of treatments.

Chemical Peels
Also called derma-peeling or chemexfoliation, this process applies a chemical solution to the skin, which causes blistering that eventually peels off, exposing regenerated skin. This process produces noticeable changes to skin texture. Sunscreen should be used following a chemical peel since skin will be more sensitive to the sun.
